Binary Blue Metal-Poor Stars: Evidence for AGB Mass Transfer
We present new abundance analyses of six blue metal-poor (BMP) stars with very low iron abundances ([Fe/H] < –2), based on new high resolution echelle spectra. Three are spectroscopic binaries and three have constant radial velocities. The chemical compositions of these two groups are very different, as the binary BMP stars have large enhancements of carbon and neutron-capture elements that are...
متن کاملGravitational waves from eccentric intermediate mass binary black hole mergers
Owing to the difficulty of direct observation, mergers of intermediate-mass black hole binaries are relatively less understood compared to stellar-mass binaries; however, the gravitational waves from their last few orbits and ringdown fall in the band of ground-based detectors. Because the typical source is expected to circularize prior to entering LIGO or VIRGO’s range, inspiral searches conce...
متن کاملDiffusive Mass Transfer in an Eccentric Annular Flow
The dispersion in an eccentric annulus region by taking blood as a Newtonian fluid with the investigation of oxygen transfer to the tissue cells in an eccentric catheterized artery is studied. The region bounded by eccentric circles in x-y plane is conformal mapping to concentric circles in plane using a conformal mapping 1 . z c The resulting governing equations are analytically solv...
متن کاملBinary Blue Metal-poor Stars: Evidence for Asymptotic Giant Branch Mass Transfer
We present new abundance analyses of six blue metal-poor (BMP) stars with very low iron abundances (1⁄2Fe=H < 2), based on new high-resolution echelle spectra. Three are spectroscopic binaries, and three have constant radial velocities. The chemical compositions of these two groups are very different, as the binary BMP stars have large enhancements of carbon and neutron-capture elements that ar...
متن کاملEccentric Binary Millisecond Pulsars
In this paper we review recent discovery of millisecond pulsars (MSPs) in eccentric binary systems. Timing these MSPs we were able to estimate (and in one case precisely measure) their masses. These results suggest that, as a class, MSPs have a much wider range of masses (1.3 to > 2M⊙) than the normal and mildly recycled pulsars found in double neutron star (DNS) systems (1.25 < Mp < 1.44M⊙). T...
